Dear Councilwoman Lamonica McIver and the City of Newark, NJ,
On February 3, 2022, 91 Prince Street of Willie T. Wrights was sighted as an “unsafe structure” by the city of Newark, NJ. I know many of the residents at Willie T. Wrights apartments and most are still suffering in the same conditions as the residents who resided 91 Prince Street. After the speaking with residents , they felt is great idea to write you a simple letter requesting you or your staff to come look into the living conditions in the other Willie T. Wrights Apartments. Most residents of Willie T. Wrights apartments are suffering through horrid living conditions. The property is owned by Treetop development who received a tax abatement on this property under 5 years ago. The residents ask that you enforce Treetop development to make necessary fixtures to the properties for tenant’s safety.
Willie T. Wrights property tenants are Newark residents and voters who demand safe living conditions. Please work to end rodent/ insect infestation, mold , unsanitary hallways/walkways and ensure the property is secure from nonresidents sleeping and soliciting/using drugs in the hallways among other issues.
Last, it has been over 90 days for the displaced residents of 91 Prince Street. When will this property be repaired and up to code? If there is anything in addition the residents of Willie T. Wrights can do as well to aid in expedition of this process, please reach out to the residents.
As new property develop in the city of Newark, NJ, let’s continue to ensure the safety of all the original Newarkers who continues to weather these unprecedented storms and trauma of Slumlords. Thank you for your time and love in ensuring safe living conditions towards a greater Central ward and city. Look forward to not just hearing from you, yet seeing you enforce safe conditions that will make lives greater.
